This course will teach students how to create useful chatbots without the need to write any code. Leveraging IBM Watson's Natural Language Processing capabilities, they will learn how to plan, implement, test, and deploy chatbots that delight users, rather than frustrate them.
True to our promise of not requiring any code, they will learn how to visually create chatbots with Watson Assistant (formerly Watson Conversation) and how to deploy them on their own website through a handy WordPress plugin. Don't have a website? No worries, one will be provided to them.
Chatbots are a hot topic in our industry and are about to go big. New jobs requiring this specific skill are being added every day, consultants demand premium rates, and the interest in chatbots is quickly exploding. Chatbots are increasingly in demand among global businesses. This course will teach your students how to build, analyze, deploy and monetize chatbots - with the help of IBM Watson and the power of AI.
Here’s a sample of what a week in the course could look like! Please keep in mind that students will progress at varying paces; this is a general outline of key material and the overall student experience.
The week begins with an introduction to Chatbots answering the question, "What are chatbots?" They explore the emergence of Messengers and AI. They will analyze who chatbots are for and examine the chatbot they are going to build.
The class covers an introduction to Watson Assistant (formerly Conversation). Topics include Watson Assistant components, Intents, Entities, Dialog, Dos, and Dont's of dialog design.
Students will get into building their Chatbot tackling Intents and Entities. They will create a workspace, define Chit Chat intents, define domain-specific intents, and define entities
In this class, students will begin building a chatbot dialog. They will construct the default WelcomeandAnything elsenodes, create Chit Chat dialog, Simple conditions and responses, and handle complex dialog flow. They will then try out and export their chatbot.
We will work on deploying our Chatbots on WordPress. Activities include installing and configuring the Watson Assistant plugin, finding and fixing problems, exploring more advanced concepts, and analyzing chatbot conversations.
Virtual online classes feature structured small-group sessions led by expert instructors. Each week includes live teaching of our personalized, world-class curriculum, plus peer collaboration, social time, and independent project work. Sprinkled with games, challenges, and entertainment, there is always something to keep the group actively engaged.
To run this online course with The Learnatory, students will need a Mac, Windows, or Chromebook computer, a webcam, and a stable internet connection with access to Zoom video conferencing.
Any course-specific installation requirements will be communicated after registration.
Our classes maintain an 8:1 student to teacher ratio ensuring every student receives individualized attention. In most classes, there is also an assistant teacher or intern to assist.
This course is intended for students who have completed a related course or have equivalent experience. With our small class sizes, each student will continue to receive individual attention and learn at their own pace.
No. This course was created by IBM assuming no programming knowledge. Thanks to Watson Assistant, you don't need to be a programmer to build useful chatbots.
If your child knows some programming, great! The foundational knowledge we share in this course will help your child create solid chatbots that delight users. Their programming skills will enable them to take your chatbots further, by integrating them with other APIs and data sources.
Watson Assistant is a chatbot service available on the IBM Cloud. Once your students register for a free account, they will be able to use the free tier of the service. There are some usage limitations in place (e.g., processing of 10,000 user questions per month), but they are fairly generous if they are just building one chatbot. If they choose to build chatbots for multiple clients as a side business, however, they might find these restrictions too limiting. Thankfully, IBM is offering a unique opportunity to partner with them and get roughly 10 times the resources each month, for a whole year!
If students taking this course intending to make money by building and selling chatbots to clients, then this special offer from IBM should be of interest. The course covers the offer in more detail, but the gist of it is that they get to become an IBM Partner and receive a year's worth of resources.
Absolutely. Your students could run their side business from their bedroom or dorm room. Anyone can take this course and start making money with chatbots if they put in the work.
