We believe every child, regardless of zip code, has the right to a high-quality education. The Learnatory Mission is to close the opportunity gap by advocating for education equity, advancing effective leadership, and transforming our system through innovation. By creating cutting-edge learning opportunities, we cultivate professionals and arm students with in-demand skills and knowledge required to successfully compete in a global society.

The Learnatory is proud of its history of serving the college-bound community with both passion and excellence. Founded in 1978 by Debra E. Brown-Thompson, The Learnatory has evolved from a single focus on after-school homework help to a multi-faceted operation with three central goals:
Over the past 40 years, The Learnatory has educated, inspired and supported more than 12,000 families in Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York. By continually assessing programs, conducting research and surveying participants, The Learnatory remains at the forefront of supplemental enrichment education. Today, The Learnatory serves students in grades 2nd - 10 through in-school, after-school, extended-school, weekend, and summer programs with a focus on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics).

Debra E. Brown-Thompson is a native of Chicago, Illinois currently residing in Brooklyn, New York. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Speech with teaching credentials from Northern Illinois University and a Master of Science in Management and Organizational Behavior with a concentration in Organization Development from Benedictine University. Her teaching background includes Bloom Township High School, Beverly Hills High School, and the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools.
Thompson also has a strong background in Telecommunications and Learning Development with several Fortune 100 corporations.
